Bravery vs. Stupidity
Do you think Melanie is being brave by standing up to a super-powered baby, or do you think what she's doing is incredibly foolish? Do you think she realizes she's in danger, or do you think she has no idea if she can chew what she's bitten off?

Melanie has taken the step so many people refuse to do, which is teach children some manners and punish them when they step out of line; so i say bravo to her and applaud her. If it were others they might just give in/be afraid like The Resa was. She is brave for standing up to Ivy and just appears like she's had enough and is standing her ground, not worrying whether she's in danger. I'm not sure why HER pouring the tea was such a big deal to her (in practise mode before The Resa came, when Mel planned SHE would do it) other than when the argument happened teaching Ivy that she needs to listen and to share, because Ivy could have gotten used to being able to do things, at first I thought it must have been because Melanie was worried that she'd burn herself but then read about the 'root beer' and realized obviously not, maybe she thought she would spill the root beer everywhere or just thought it would be fun for her to do cause she likes it, anyway, no matter the reason why, hopefully this is a step in the right direction for Ivy, if she wants to continue being a big girl part of that is learning to work together. I think a lot of adults could learn a thing or two from Melanie.

I agree with blondiviolette about Mennie standing her ground (though I don't read fear into any actions of The Resa so far). You don't want someone like Amanda around thinking that they can do whatever they want, to whomever they want, without morality or remorse. That's why in fiction the military is always looking to control or kill people like Amanda. To let them run free without safeguards would mean sacrificing everyone else's free will.
The problem with this story (to the people within the story) is that Amanda has no kryptonite, weakness with the color yellow, microchip in her head (that causes pain or can explode), toxic reaction to silver, religious symbols, the sun, or wooden stakes, etc. She doesn't even have rivals with equally strong abilities to keep each other in check. The only thing the people in this story have going for them is that she is a baby and still has baby needs that can be, for lack of a better word, exploited and not taken by force. Needs like positive attention, sincere signs of affection and expressions of love, and a general sense to want to please those closes to them are the only "tools of negotiation" people can use to infuse Amanda with a sense of morality that will help govern her behavior for the rest of her life and turn away from the slimy road of a villain and despot... and the clock on how long those things will work is ticking away.
As for Mennie's awareness of any of this, I don't think she has any idea of the danger she's in. I fear that if Amanda forces her back to the tea party then Mennie will get a rude awakening that might just scare her away permanently. If the terror of being powerless to a baby's whims and wishes, of being just another play thing to an immature mind ever seeps in then I'm sure Mennie will disappear from the picture and end up hiding in a closet somewhere hoping that [shadow=red,down,400]The Baby[/shadow] never finds out where she lives.

Actually, Ivy does have a weakness. She is just as vulnerable as anyone else to bullets or any other physical weapon that she isn't aware of in time or is too fast, or any physical danger that is too massive. So it is certainly possible to kill her - but especially when she is older and knows to fight back, there will be quite a few casualties on the other side as well. At this stage, the scary thing is that she might kill or injure Mennie without meaning to.

Yep, it's very true that baby Ivy is far from invincible. When she is awake, focused on you, and not being threatened from an alternate source, she can be pretty scary if she decides something bad should happen to you, but in a traditional "superhero" type understanding, she's pretty easy to "beat." After all, she's completely vulnerable when she sleeps, and though she could stop someone from being able to get to their gun or stop them from firing it if she saw what they were doing, she'd certainly be able to be hurt or killed if someone shot her unexpectedly.
But as mentioned above by others, the scariest thing right now is that she will hurt someone without any intention or understanding of what she's doing. If she was flying with someone and dropped them, or if she got mad and tossed them and they fell off the building, that'd be it--and she'd probably never understand what she'd done.

So it is certainly possible to kill her - Ah, true true. However, I guess a nice fat portion of her invulnerability comes from trying to find someone willing to shoot a baby... especially an extremely adorable one with fine elven features. It would also have to be someone that could do it either without hesitation or without broadcasting intent, otherwise she is the speed of thought away from subduing them.
