Have anything to say about #304: ivy #67: make some noise? This is the place to discuss with others without having to post directly on the comic (though you're free to do both)!

I admire The Resa's bravery and undying understanding towards Ivy given her experience of being kidnapped. She is very poised and knows so much about the world. What would Mel and Ivy do without her?

Interesting advice from someone with kids. In my experience loud and sudden sounds often scare babies into hysterics.

Interesting advice from someone with kids. In my experience loud and sudden sounds often scare babies into hysterics. Yes, but . . . hysterics, if they were to occur, would also possibly distract her from whatever she was doing. In other words, scare her and she may cry, but she will probably stop what she's doing. The baby's parents used to do it to her when she was younger, too; her dad used to clap his hands and get her attention while she was eating, and it worked. Noises seem to intimidate her and make her subservient instead of aggressive. It happened with the thunder, too--she became sweet and dependent. I guess Theresa has just noticed that Ivy cringes when she gets yelled at. And if it's an emergency, parents do this in general all the time. A kid is running into the road, you might bark at them and clap your hands and scare the crap out of them, but as long as they stop running into the road, you don't care. It's all about forcibly changing the child's attention, and since Melanie wouldn't be able to actually spank the baby or move toward her or do anything physical if she were being held or whatever, her last resort would probably be her voice. When Ivy held Melanie still last time, she immediately froze up and spoke very quietly/carefully to Theresa. The opposite might get the opposite effect.
