Have anything to say about #252: ivy #40: it made her stay? This is the place to discuss with others without having to post directly on the comic (though you're free to do both)!

OMG, keep doing these like this and you are going to make me cry! This was so sweet and heart warming. I really wish Mennie could figure out a way to bring Amanda home and really have her as a little sister. If her parents and sister are so neglectful of her it seems almost like she could pull it off.
Hey, this was two Amanda comics in a row, wasn't it? That's weird! I wonder whats going on. Deja v.

What's "going on" is swankivy sucks at pacing her comic and is very behind with this storyline, so doubling up is the only answer if you don't want to be subjected to weeks and weeks of holding patterns with Meri Lin brooding, Adele wandering aimlessly, and Dax and Weaver gazing at their navels. . . . We're getting to the point in this story where the storylines have to start making sense in relation to one another, so a little bit of fast-forward for Ivy is necessary to make that happen.
As for Melanie and her neglectful family, it's true they ignore her a lot but it doesn't mean they don't notice what she's doing. She gets yelled at for being disruptive (even when really she's just being a kid or just being ALIVE), and she gets yelled at or sometimes hit if she makes too much noise or expects too much attention. Bringing in a baby who cries, makes noise, and has lots of needs is a very bad idea and Melanie knows it. I'm kinda glad she isn't likely to bring the baby into that abusive environment, though. Even if her main motivation is protecting herself from her mother's anger should the baby's presence upset her, it'd still be irresponsible for her to expose a toddler to an unstable parent like that. Ivy may be strong but she doesn't have the reasoning skills to know when she might need to protect herself yet--not until someone has already hurt her.

Dax and Weaver comparing navels? I can see those two doing that. And there's plenty to see with Adele's wanderings. How she survives, where she gets food, any interaction with people, bathing, any interaction with animals, how her camping skills grow from what she gleans from the minds of others.. . We're getting to the point in this story where the storylines have to start making sense in relation to one another, so a little bit of fast-forward for Ivy is necessary to make that happen. But that's where Mennie would come in, she could be the brains and Amanda the brawn. I don't know, Mennie seems like a runaway candidate, which is a shame, but I'd favor her chances more if she struck out with Amanda in tow. She seems to be getting more adept at taking care of and handling her... to the extent that Amanda can be handled.

That was so sweet! Maybe I'm just overemotional or something, but that almost made me cry, especially that last part! It was really touching to see Melanie acting like a caregiver and a child ("I always wanted to really sleep in one of these!") at the same time.
And I don't mind if "swankivy sucks at pacing her comic and is very behind with this storyline". I love Amanda's/Ivy's storyline! ;D

Aw. You guys are great. I'm always so happy to hear that my writing's had the effect I intended. I agree there should be a combo-smiley.
I've never actually seen Dax's or Weaver's navels . . . they're pretty furry people. Heh.
As for bathing, Adele appears to have quite a history of doing that while the Negative One camera is on her. The baby beats her, though. I don't think Adele will be outside for much longer right now though. She wants to go back and return that book.
Running away is not quite what I had in the works for Melanie, but believe me when I say her repeated absence from home (and, later, school) does not go unnoticed. . . .
Hehe, and I also like the way Melanie is sometimes very responsible and sometimes very childish. She'd probably be a good big sister, but I hope no more kids are born into that family--it's not a very nice place.
